FEATURE SEGMENT

This week’s podcast show guest is Mr. Paul Proefrock. Paul has been a long-time listener of this podcast show and contacted me a few months ago about “the ultimate muscle car,” the Shelby Cobra. He explained that he was the owner of builder of a Cobra replica car, and that the company he purchased his kit from was Hurricane Motorsports, right near me in Lake City, IA. I interviewed Steve Sinnard from Hurricane last fall in Episode 111, and after that I was curious to know what an actual owner and builder thought about the process. Was it really as easy as just ordering up a kit, inserting Tab A into Slot B, and adding paint? It couldn’t be, could it? Paul offered to come on the show to give the answer!

The day his Hurricane Cobra kit came home. The entire build took place in one stall of a 2-car garage!

Long story short, according to Paul it really can be as easy as inserting Tab A into Slot B if you want it to be. Before purchasing his Hurricane kit he did a considerable amount of research to find the most accurate replica he could for the price he wanted to spend, and the Hurricane kit fit the bill.

During the interview he described the entire build process from stem to stern, and he really stressed that with a kit car the build direction and level of accuracy is really up to the builder. If one wanted to assemble every part in the kit it would indeed be just fine, but since Paul wanted an accurate replica it took a little more time to get everything just right (such as period gauges, turn signals, etc.).

Paul’s interview segment starts at just pat the 12-minute mark of the show if you’d like to jump right to it, and he also has a fantastic website called 3x2csx.com that chronicles the entire build, complete with pictures and a journal of the process.

Thanks for the time, Paul! I’ll take a ride anytime!
