Gray Frederick Advanced Fuel Dynamics Sales Director

In this episode I spoke to Gray Fredrick, the sales director for Advanced Fuel Dynamics. AFD’s entire goal is to maximize the affordable power-adder benefit available in E85 fuel…but without the need for an E85 specific engine tune. Why? Because E85 fuel is an inconsistent blend pump-to-pump and state to state. With that said however, they have found a way to let the ECM do the job needed to gain that happy wonderful octane supplement  and this discussion is all about that very process. The OEM’s have found a way to utilize E85 well enough with fuel economy in mind….but performance is the objective of AFD.

The founder of Advanced Fuel Dynamics, Ryan Truax, was an engine tuner by trade and had the epiphany that a lot of people were paying a lot of money for an E85 tune that was only good for “one barrel” of fuel. Essentially, once the car was tuned for a specific blend of fuel it was good until the fuel mix changed (or the owner had to use regular E10 fuel).

Ryan’s goal was to create a device that could determine the fuel mix inside the fuel lines so that he could compensate with on on-they-fly method that effectively adjusts the engine tune to match. The onboard ECM already accomplishes this with knock sensors….so all Ryan had to do was find a way to compensate the required injector input to make it all work in harmony for maximum performance. Thus, that’s the lineup of products they have created!

In addition, AFD’s goal was not to use the old line of “bolts on to any application.” but to actually test and verify certain OEM vehicles and aftermarket parameters required to take advantage of their system. Visit their website and/or contact them directly with your vehicle specific questions.

Simple to install, with an easy unlock tune your GM powered vehicle can start running E85 or any blend of E85 and gasoline.

Pro Touring Autocross Event Coverage: As we wait for the 2019 autocross season, I asked Larry about the new changes to the rules for GoodGuys as released in the interview with Ed Capen in episode 382. Larry liked the changes and thinks it gives a more even playing field. It is also nice to win and not get bumped up to the next class immediately.

As always Autocross and Pro-Touring events are featured at Pro-Touring.com

We’re proud to say that this segment is sponsored by the fantastic muscle car and hot rod wiring supply company, Ron Francis Wiring, and we’re very appreciative that they are our show sponsor!

Thanks, Ron Francis!
