Muscle Car Barn Finds – Ryan Brutt

In this episode of TMCP our feature guest is Ryan Brutt, THE Auto Archaeologist. Ryan has been on the show once before in episode 325 where he discussed how to find classic cars in barns. This time around Ryan has a new book detailing his best barn finds in pictures and words.

For Ryan, finding cars in barns is a full time job. He travels across the country asking people at garages and parts stores about the locations of hidden barn find cars. Making connections and friends is a major key in the way he finds these forgotten classics. To save money he will spend nights at peoples houses while he researches new old car leads. He writes articles for many major magazine platforms and is a regular contributor to your favorite rag.

It is not easy to make a lot of money, but Ryan loves what he does and capturing the stories behind why the vehicles are where they are, is his favorite thing to do. Most vehicles are parked with best intentions of fixing in the future and the fear that someone else will not treat the vehicle with respect like the owner would. Of course time marches forward and the car sits while other “more important” life events happen.

As an additional bonus, sometimes Ryan gets to be part of the hook up that gets the vehicles into a better place. The cars in Ryan’s books are not for sale for the most part, but sometimes  the exposure gets the owner motivated to either work on the vehicle or sell it. There is no contact information published and Ryan will not share the location unless the owner says they would like to move it. I also asked him about screen used vehicles and he said that most are already in museums someplace and vehicles left in the wild are scarce. Of course he does know someone with access to a screen used General Lee and may be able to get me a ride in one.

You can see more about Ryan on Instagram.com/theautoarchaeologist or on Facebook.com/TheAutoArchaeologist. He has many videos on YouTube and you can also find his new book on Amazon too.

Thanks, Ryan!

with Larry Callahan!

A little low rez cell phone edited video for now from the Holley LS Fest West event in Las Vegas Nevada.

Holley LS Fest West Las Vegas: Larry talked about the upcoming Holley LS Fest West which at the time had not happened. Since then he had a great time at the event and posted many videos of all the fun.

GoodGuys North Carolina Charlotte event: We covered the results from the recent GoodGuys event. Congrats to Jared Lesinger on the win at the event. In the Street Machine class winner Bill Graves in a 66 Corvette. It was pointed out that many Street class cars were faster than the Pro division.

General Lee Update: The transmission is out and the new Silver Sport A-41o four speed overdrive unit is ready to go in. I will have to bend a couple pinch welds and put a dimple in the floor to make it all fit. The only thing after that is to buy a console and attach the brackets to the floor. Also looking forward to the QA1 suspension upgrades to make it handle a little more like a race car and less like a truck.

Larry Stuff: Larry says he wants to be at LS Fest with the MotiV8r next year but life keeps getting in the way.

As always Autocross and Pro-Touring events are featured at Pro-Touring.com

We’re proud to say that this segment is sponsored by the fantastic muscle car and hot rod wiring supply company, Ron Francis Wiring, and we’re very appreciative that they are our show sponsor!

Thanks, Ron Francis!
