Dukes Review: “Vance’s Lady” So…this is a Coy and Vance episode, but it’s also an homage to Smokey and the Bandit as well as every Hallmark Christmas movie. Rosco’s car loses its top, fenders, quarters, etc Buford T Justice style. Vance reunites with his lost love, the city gal with the sophisticated lifestyle who wants to get back with the simpleton yet confident and rugged small town guy she lost. Boss eats a pizza (in a car with no roof or windshield), ribs, and possibly a a suitcase. Vance’s chick is running from a crooked politician who was stealing public funds, so feel free to assign your political party if choice to that one. I think that there is a confirmed sighting of the Forever Young General Lee in this one too. Otherwise, the episode is….meh. .

Dukes Review: “Big Daddy” This is a story of father and son. Boss Hogg’s father comes to Hazzard. Boss loves his father and thought he was the highest standard of a man there was, believing him to be kind, generous, and upstanding. (It’s actually plausible if you recall Boss’s twin brother “Abraham Lincoln Hogg). Anyway, it turns out that he’s a terrible person. Surprise! Later on, Coy and Vance get beat by a bad guy. There’s a funny scene with food. The old lady from Airplane and Airplane II is in this. Oh, and the right headlight door on the General opens during a jump. That’s kinda interesting. There’s also a scene where there’s a typo on the roof of the General and it says “GENRERAL LEE.” Fin.

This is the 5th Coy and Vance episode. In the wake of the huge previous deep dive episodes on screen used Generals….getting back to reviewing regular episodes is kind of an emotional let down. This one is fine, I suppose. The gist of it is that the Bosses of the neighboring counties to Hazzard are, like Boss Hogg, also corrupt. They are unhappy that a new highway bypass keeps visitors out of their territories – and directly into Boss Hogg’s. You know the drill from here. The Dukes save him, despite their best interest. There’s a side-by-side car jump between the General and a Bad Guy car that is cool. If you like vintage VHS cameras, there’s something for you here as well – hey hey! Otherwise….this one is easy to forget.

The DEEP DIVE: After the last episode, you knew it was coming. This is a full review of the 1992 Mel Gibson movie, Forever Young. This is the one where Mel is a test pilot in 1939, gets cryogenically frozen for a year to avoid the pain watching his girlfriend die in a hospital slowly, and then waked up over 50 years later to find out he was abandoned by everyone he knew and loved. Only he wasn’t…..and if you love history, romance, flying, and Chargers you’ll absolutely love this movie. The audio alone is with your time. Yes….we believe the last “Sound Stage” General Lee is the car in this movie, and yes, that’s the primary reason we reviewed it. However, this movie gets a Perfect 10 from ALL OF US for just being a great, fun, enjoyable story to watch and enjoy!
OK….with that said, the deep dive on the Chargers in this film is somewhat exhaustive and definitely sickening. We can absolutely say FOR SURE that there were two Generals used in the movie, as documented in the episode. Remember, Warner Brothers kept the “Sound-Stage” car as well as one Hero car. The Sound Stage car was a ’68 Charger faked to look like a ’69 (grille and taillight changes), and the Hero car was a ’69. We feel pretty certain that the ’68 was used for the bulk of the movie….except for two interior scenes.
Remember these words: DOME LIGHT.

The DEEP DIVE You Never Asked For and Possibly Do Not Want: Since the dawn of time man has wondered what really happened to all the General Lee’s from the Dukes of Hazzard TV series. We’ve been told through folklore that 19 cars remained and 17 were sold into private hands in 1991, with Warner Brothers keeping the remaining two. The problem is….there’s enough proof out there to indicate that when the series ended in 1985 that there may have been MORE than 19 General still alive….and that they may have found their way to other productions. This is our way too involved attempt at solving these mysteries once and for all. Plus….it’s a great distraction from COVID-19. Enjoy.

Dukes Review – This episode is a somewhat forgettable one, but the most IMPORTANT thing you need to know is that the guest bad-guy star in this episode is actor Al White. Al will forever be loved as part of the dynamic duo in the “Jive Scene” of the 1980 movie, Airplane! We played that clip a lot in this episode. A lot. Also the one from Airplane II (it’s there, look it up). Other than Al and some comedy from Boss, Rosco, Cletus, and Enos….this episode is pretty meh. The basic premise is that Rosco is nice to everyone – including the Dukes – while campaigning to become “Lawman of the Year.” Boss Hogg does something bad later, the Dukes solve it, the end. is weird, dialogue is clumsy, and the stunts are awesome. Enjoy.

We know that MANY of you do not have the option to realistically work from home. The intent of this show was to learn who is where, who is doing what, and how we’re all getting through it. Yes, there’s even good news in here too. And some inappropriate jokes….as you would expect (there’s always time for that).

Gone in 60 Seconds – MOVIE REVIEW: If all you know of Nic Cage with how you’ve seen Andy Samburg play him on SNL, prepare to be amazed! The summer 2000 released Nicolas Cage version of the movie shares little with the 1974 original other than the movie title and name of the star car, but it’s a popcorn movie that keeps car people happy from start to finish. Except for the CGI jump at the end. That was terrible. Ignore that. And for those that wondered why we chose THIS movie over the original, well…you may think that ’67 Shelby GT500 “Eleanor” in Gone in 60 Seconds is a timeless beauty or just waaaaaaaaaaaay too overexposed at this point, but there’s no question that she is one of the most replicated Hollywood cars out there – perhaps even rivaling the General Lee. That’s notable and worth a look!

Dukes Review: Man. Is Season 5 over yet? Crap, it’s not. This is just episode 2. Dammit. Anyway, here’s the summary: Coy and Vance are in this episode – wearing the same Bo and Luke color coordination for shirts and everything. The Dukes plant fake gold fools Boss into taking back land he sold unscrupulously to an unsuspecting young couple. The stunts are great, Catherine Bach is off the charts hot in this one. Cletus says something funny once. There is another good jump at the end too. Episode seemed really long to me. Like, two hours long. Weird. Anyway, they win. The end.
