Dukes of Hazzard S2 E8: Hazzard Connection

K&F Show Summary:

Since they’re lousy at making money farming, Bo and Luke take a side job delivering crash-up-derby cars to a local race promoter. The catch? He’s cooked, and somehow the Dukes will be mistakenly blamed for whatever bad is about to happen. I know. It’s mind blowing. Anyway, they figure out he’s smuggling stolen racing engines out in old smashed up cars so they continue working with him until they can catch up with the goods. Bo has to demo derby the General against a “slammer” car. The bad guy wears an ascot like Fred on Scooby Doo. Hijinks ensue.

Legit Show Info:

Season 2 – Episode 8 “Hazzard Connection”
Airdate: 11/9/79
Written by Paul Savage
Directed by Paul Baxley

Interesting Tidbits:

— Gerald McRaney was in this show. He was in Simon and Simon…and also was a candidate to play the part of…Luke Duke!

— The blue 68 Mustang and Yellow 68 Camaro in this episode…are the black 68 Mustang and gray 68 Camaro from Episode 1 of this season – Days of Shine and Roses!

— The Dukes are not only poor – and using a mule to plow – but now I know why they make no money farming. Iowa farm soil (and really any soil in Iowa) black, rich, and full of nutrients to grow anything. The Dukes are just farming dirt!

–Actor John Quade portrayed the bad guy Audie Detweiler – was only 42 year old here. He looked rougher…

Corndog’s Super Insider Analysis:

10:23 – Bo & Luke pull up to the Saugus Speedway. This is the same race track from the last episode.

23:00 – The demolition derby cars that were used are the same ones that can be seen in the home video that I posted earlier this week.

29:09 – Daisy’s Plymouth gets wiped out by Rosco’s car. The damage from this shot with knocked this car out of commission for good, or they could have possibly repaired it or repurposed it as another car on the show. Later on, they decided to give Daisy a Jeep and the main reason for that, the 71/72 Satellites and RoadRunners became harder to find and were not as plentiful as the Chargers… surprisingly.

29:39 – When Bo & Luke are driving the semi and notice that someone is following them, this location was used many times in the early California episodes. This area, with the white fence alongside the road, is Potrero Rd. and is just outside of Thousand Oaks, CA. It still looks the same today. When Bo & Luke take the semi off the paved road onto gravel… this shot may look familiar to you. They set up the camera pretty much in the same spot for the opening scene of the 1997 Dukes of Hazzard Reunion movie.

When Luke gets out of the moving semi, and climbs back on the trailer… that is actually actor Tom Wopat doing the scene, not a stunt double. I’m surprised they allowed him to shoot that scene.

46:25 – *Goof-up* – When Luke is driving the red “slammer” car, the camera cuts to a close up in-car view and Luke is actually driving the General Lee.

Dream Board Update: Goals to Accomplish Before Episode 200

rob_ferrari_dietcokesponsorship
Coca Cola Corporation take note. This is how awesome sponsoring our show would be. Even when driving Ferrari F-430 race prepped track cars Kibbe can only think about how refreshing a Diet Coke would be.

1. Get Diet Coke to Sponsor us….or just Kibbe.

2. Be characters in the Disney/Pixar movie, Cars 3. Finnegan is the General. Kibbe…is wishing he was the General.

3. Syndicate the show onto TV and radio, having awesome guests in studio, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. on regularly to be our best friend.

4. Get John Schneider himself on the show with us. Pray to God he actually likes us and isn’t freaked out.

5. Blow up the podcast so that it becomes a regular weekly show, interviewing celebrities, and actually providing a living for us capable of allowing us to race cars anytime we want plus let our wives get the shoes they like.

6. Get our own studio.

7. We each get a General Lee (real car – not a toy).

8. Get a Voiceover Guy to announce the segments.

9. Jump a car together. Kibbe wants to go 30-feet vertical.

10. Make a Dream GL that is based off of a 1973 NASCAR Charger (like the 1/16th scale AMT model)

11. Kibbe needs a new wallet to replace his “George Costanza”.

12. Mike to get a new truck for legit towing. DONE!
