This is the takeoff jump made by Al Wyatt for “Carnival of Thrills!” Unfortunately….this General Lee would not clear the parked cars at all. A second General was used to get the landing shot. Neither car survived! Image provided by Justin “Corndog” Cornette.

Dukes of Hazzard S3E1: Carnival of Thrills Parts 2

K&F Show Summary:

This is Part 2 of Carnival of Thrills and it picks up exactly where the last one left off; with Bo punching Luke, taking the General Lee, splitting up the family, and ripping apart the fabric of all that we know to be true and right in the world. Why? Because of the mis-guided love of a she-devil named Diane, that’s why. Luke, Jesse, and Daisy won’t quit though and prove to Bo that his fool hearted desire to jump 32 cars to impress a wack-o temptress would actually result in his murder and the chick leaving him anyway. So, in the grand scheme of things it’s a total lose-lose. Then Bo and Luke reconcile and and do the jump together anyway. Because #integrity. Hijinks ensue.

Legit Show Info:

Season 3 – Episode 1 “Carnival of Thrills – Pt 2”
Airdate: 9/16/80
Written by William Raynor and Myles Wilder
Directed by Dick Moder

Behind the scenes: A rare on-set photo of John Schneider studying his lines for”Carnival of Thrills.”

Corndog’s Super Insider Analysis:

– Finnegan has asked about authentic General Lee prices a couple times in the past. The 17 cars that WB sold with paperwork in 1991 rarely come up for sale. When they do, they sell for around the $125,000. Only a few of the 17 have even changed hands since being sold in 1991. The 2005/07 movie cars are below $100,000… most being in the $50-80k range. There are only 3 1997/2000 Reunion cars (not counting John Schneider’s personal car)… so I’m not really sure what they should sell for. They are the only three car that were used by the original cast and the movie cast though… if that means anything. I would say, more than movie cars, but less than TV series cars.

*** “Carnival of Thrills” ***

12:33 – When Rosco shows up at the fairgrounds to arrest Bo for illegally taking the General Lee from the impound, when they walk behind the car… if you listen carefully, you can hear Bo tell Rosco “Don’t hold my hand! I ain’t one of them Cedar City faggots!”

12:48 – When Rosco hauls the General Lee back to town, and they park in front of the police station, this is a perfect example of why the crew eventually started using the wide pusher. The car barely even bumps the back of the police car, but you can see the pusher lay back as it crushes the center grille section on the General Lee.

25:21 – When Bo makes a second attempt at a practice jump in the General Lee, and the front wheels go over the end of the ramp, you can see a safety anchor cable that is attached to the rear of the car to keep it from going too far off the ramp.

32:04 – When Carl sneaks over to the General Lee to cut the fuel line, this is Finnegan’s favorite car. On top of that… the engine bay is the actual one from the car. Later in the episode, when they check to see if the fuel line is cut, you can see the same silver spray-painted A/C compressor.

33:03 – Buzz Bundy is the stunt driver who puts the little Chevy Vega up on two wheels for the ski stunt. Kibbe has pointed out how Buzz liked to hold the window frame for support while doing the ski stunts. In this shot, you can see where a pipe was welded in place for him to hold, since this car was not equipped with a vent glass frame.

35:36 – Probably one of the most impressive stunts would have been the double pipe ramp with an explosion and a very brave stunt lady standing only a few feet away between the cars. At the 35:44 mark of this stunt (included screen cap) you can see that the car on the right slide right into a camera on a tripod and the car only stops inches away from the camera man.

36:29 – When Bo pulls up in the General Lee, before the jump, you will notice that this car is the same ’69 RT/SE that we have seen in previous episodes. You will also notice that this car has a freshly installed full roll cage that is still clean bare metal.

37:58 – When Luke blocks the General Lee with the blue car, this is Finnegan’s favorite (former 4×4) car. I’ve noticed that the last few times that you see this car, the orange paint did not match on the passenger side door. It must have been replaced at some point.

For the big jump, as I’m sure you are aware… it took two attempts. The first car jumped was the ’69 RT/SE, with painted rocker moldings. The car came up short on the jump and crashed into the roof of a stacked car. I have yet to find any actual pictures of this car, but it was featured in the trading cards (included). The second, more successful jump, was done with the former 4×4 Charger. It appears that the car didn’t even have a full cage in it either. Both jumps were done by Al Wyatt Jr.

Dream Board Update: Goals to Accomplish Before Episode 200

rob_ferrari_dietcokesponsorship

Coca Cola Corporation take note. This is how awesome sponsoring our show would be. Even when driving Ferrari F-430 race prepped track cars Kibbe can only think about how refreshing a Diet Coke would be.

1. Get Diet Coke to Sponsor us….or just Kibbe.

2. Be characters in the Disney/Pixar movie, Cars 3. Finnegan is the General. Kibbe…is wishing he was the General.

3. Syndicate the show onto TV and radio, having awesome guests in studio, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. on regularly to be our best friend.

4. Get John Schneider himself on the show with us. Pray to God he actually likes us and isn’t freaked out.

5. Blow up the podcast so that it becomes a regular weekly show, interviewing celebrities, and actually providing a living for us capable of allowing us to race cars anytime we want plus let our wives get the shoes they like.

6. Get our own studio.

7. We each get a General Lee (real car – not a toy).

8. Get a Voiceover Guy to announce the segments.

9. Jump a car together. Kibbe wants to go 30-feet vertical.

10. Make a Dream GL that is based off of a 1973 NASCAR Charger (like the 1/16th scale AMT model)

11. Kibbe needs a new wallet to replace his “George Costanza”.

12. Mike to get a new truck for legit towing. DONE!
