The Fox-body Mustang 5.0 was the Shoebox Chevy of its generation and the fact that you can practically build a new one from a catalog means that original unmodified specimens are getting awfully rare. Add in low purchase costs a younger audience eager for cheap thrills and well the survival rate of these cars isn't all that high. Which makes this 1991 Mustang GT convertible a great find. It has a few minor mods all of which are of the bolt-on variety as well as some styling upgrades that enhance the familiar Fox profile. The original two-tone Strawberry Red and silver combination looks great on the drop-top Ford accented by a matching silver pinstripe along the fender line. The urethane ground effects were ground-breaking in the late-80s and there was no mistaking Ford's pony car on the road with the round fog lamps up front and cheese grater taillights out back and with that performance rear wing this one certainly has a distinctive look. The bright red paint is vivid and bright and the sheetmetal underneath looks nice. The ground effects are immaculate although the rear valence has been modified with a cool tailpipe upgrade that's vaguely reminiscent of the mid-'60s GT setup. Heck even the original trunk rack which Ford designers tacked on to hide the CHMSL remains in place and in exemplary condition under the spoiler. The Mustang GT's interior offers comfortable supportive buckets and durable cloth faces all beautifully preserved and in excellent condition with no rips or fading-remarkable for a ragtop. The leather-wrapped steering wheel remains in great shape too along with the matching red dashboard. This car is loaded with just about every single option including cruise control power windows and locks interval wipers and A/C which has been upgraded to R134a refrigerant. A modern AM/FM/CD stereo replaces the original Ford unit and sounds amazing and you have to admit that the Saleen inspired stylin bar over the passenger compartment looks pretty cool. The top is new and drops into its well with the touch of a button where it's covered by a matching red boot that fits well. Ford's venerable 5.0 liter V8 delivers 225 horsepower and a raucous 300 pounds of torque spinning through a slick-shifting AOD 4-speed automatic transmission. In stock form the car is a great performer making wonderful sounds and delivering tire-smoking old-school muscle car thrills. The big aluminum intake is instantly recognizable and none of the usual boy-racer modifications have been done (they are usually a bad idea anyway). The intake coolant hoses are still hooked up the EGR system is fully functional and it uses factory exhaust manifolds and catalytic converters. Then there are details like polished stainless intake that looks great matched by a trick upper coolant hose as well as a few other chrome dress-up items. Underneath it's equally clean with just a set of Flowmaster mufflers out back for that traditional 5.0 sound. The final touch is a set of very nice Pony alloy wheels wearing fat 245/50/16 performance radials. Today as it was in 1991 the Mustang GT represents a HUGE bang for the buck. If you're looking for a clean convertible that hasn't been abused this is an excellent choice with summer coming up. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
