In case you hadn't noticed finding a clean stock Mustang fastback is getting increasingly difficult. This very nicely done 1965 2+2 proves that there's a lot of appeal to a near-stock car with a rev-happy 289 a cool icy blue paint job and a classic Mustang interior. Restored in 2004 (receipts are included) this Mustang is a very pleasant change from all the bright red and black ponies we've been seeing lately. The icy blue finish neatly compliments the fastback profile and doesn't scream at you. Instead it lets you appreciate the finer points of the design which still looks awesome more than 45 years later. Few liberties were taken including a hood scoop and the rear window slats that have been painted to match the body work but overall the shape lends itself well to subtlety. This one also includes the grille-mounted fog lights '289' badges on the front fenders as well as the dual exhaust tips poking through the rear valence. Workmanship is professional throughout and it's easy to see this one well cared for classic pony. Black buckets inside are like old friends if you're a Mustang fan and sliding behind the wheel is like coming home. Again restraint was the order of the day and there is no aftermarket steering wheel no modern gauges and no giant short-throw shifter. What you get instead is classic styling from the woodgrain steering wheel to the wide speedometer flanked by round instrument pods to the canted shifter lever. The only significant upgrade is an AM/FM/cassette stereo system but it fits into the dash with no modifications so you can't really hold it against the builder for wanting more contemporary sounds. Recent black carpets complement the unmarked bucket seats and the console and shifter appear to be nicely preserved original pieces. Everything that was good about the Mustang remains intact and you'll look forward to climbing behind the wheel every time. The engine is a freshened 289 cubic inch V8 and there's no sweeter sound in the Ford world than one of these at full song. Appropriately finished in black engine paint with chrome valve covers and matching air cleaner someone went the extra mile to make the engine bay look as authentic as possible. Look closely and you'll find correct hose clamps new wiring and reproduction decals that give it a factory look. New gear includes spark plugs speedometer cable an electronic ignition system a fresh clutch and pressure plate a rebuilt transmission and a rugged 9-inch rear with 3.55 gears on a Track-Lok limited slip. This car also recently received all new KYB performance shocks & springs front sway bar titanium ceramic coated headers 2.5 Flowmaster exhaust and front disc brakes courtesy of SSBC. And no wheel ever looked better on a Mustang than the bright styled steel wheels this car wears protected by a brand new set of BF Goodrich tires. Vintage Mustangs don't get much better looking than this and with all the recent work it is a great cruiser that will always turn heads.
