This brutal 1970 Chevrolet Nova SS doesn't pull any punches and the sinister black paint job should be all you need to see before giving it a wide berth. Fortunately there's also a built small block under the hood a 4-speed and the kind of hardware that suggests it was built for only one thing: dishing out the pain. There's something about a muscle-bound Nova in black that suggests serious performance. Maybe it's the fact that Chevy's compact Nova has the best power-to-weight ratio in the business or the fact that almost any corporate V8 will slip between the fenders or perhaps even that it was built at a time when the horsepower wars were still raging. Whatever the case someone took one very clean Nova 2-door sedan (those posts help keep the body rigid under load) spent about five months block sanding the bodywork then covered it with bad-to-the-bone black paint. No stripes no decals no graphics just stock bodywork rendered with crisp details and a brilliant shine. The hood has those trick chrome inserts that we like so much and all the SS badges and chrome bumpers are brand new so there's a lot of shiny stuff to glitter against the black. The doors fit right the trunk is flush and they took their time putting it together so that nothing would distract onlookers from the fact that this is one tough hombre. Inside the bench seat industrial look is even more hardcore. With a 4-speed Hurst sticking out of the floor you know it means business. Original-style seat covers were stretched over the original frames so it looks pretty basic but recent carpets and nicely preserved original door panels add some character. You'll note that aftermarket power windows were added somewhere along the line along with a full set of white-faced auxiliary gauges under the dash. The original instruments are still doing their thing but cover only the basics of speed and fuel level plus a factory clock that's kind of a novelty. An AM/FM/CD/iPod stereo has been neatly installed in the dash feeding speakers in the rear package shelf so the sound system is decent. And with tinted windows all around it does look pretty nasty. The trunk is finished with a stock mat and you know any car with the battery moved to the trunk probably means business. The 350 cubic inch V8 under the hood was built for combat and features all the upgrades you'd expect from a car designed to kick sand in the faces of lesser machines. A big Holley carb and Edelbrock intake feed the beast and give it a wonderful intake moan while long-tube headers and a Flowmaster muffler give it a mean bark. A few chrome bits dress up the engine and thanks to a new aluminum radiator and fan it keeps its cool under the harshest of conditions. Other new parts include the alternator clutch and a freshly rebuilt Muncie 4-speed transmission. To ensure reliability there's a 9-inch Ford rear end fitted with Wilwood disc brakes and the 3.50 gears inside are a reasonable combination for the street. Flashy 17-inch Torque Thrusts look great against the black and carry 235/45/17 front and 255/45/17 rear performance radials. A gnarly little compact that runs even better than it looks. Fast fun on a budget that's the Nova. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom. For more information please call (704) 598-2130 or toll free (866) 542-8392.
