Description

This 1965 Corvette roadster features a numbers-matching drivetrain including the high-performance L79 350 horsepower 327 V8 and matching 4-speed manual transmission. Beautifully restored about eight years ago it remains in great condition perfect for those summer drives in the country or a long road trip to the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. Resplendent in its original code MM Milano Maroon color this great-looking little roadster has clearly had a lot of money spent on the restoration. Gaps are good all around and of course using modern paints has resulted in a finish that's miles deep and glitters in the sunlight like a precious gem. The chrome including the small front and rear bumpers and all the Corvette emblems have been restored or replaced leaving you with a clean sophisticated sports car that has a ton of eyeball appeal. Inside the original standard black vinyl interior was upgraded to black leather during the restoration. Leather was an available option in 1965 so there's no deduction there and a car of this caliber really does deserve better than vinyl seats. The leather is supple and undamaged showing only what most folks would call comfort marks where someone has spent some time behind the wheel probably grinning like crazy the entire time. Everything else inside was refreshed during the restoration from the door panels to the carpets and all the gauges work properly. The wood steering wheel adds a European feel to the Corvette's upscale interior and was a rare option in 1965. Overhead there's a black vinyl top that stows into a nicely finished well behind the seats. Power comes from a potent and reliable L79 327 which in 1965 was rated at 350 horsepower. Corvette values are largely dependent on whether the cars still carry their original drivelines and this is the original matching-numbers engine that came with this car. Nicely detailed at the time of restoration it's clear that someone has been driving and enjoying this car and who can blame them? Still all the correct details are still there from the original chrome air cleaner to the blue stripe hoses and correct tower clamps. The original ram's horn exhaust manifolds were left as-cast just as they were in 1965 which is what the judges at Corvette shows often look for. You also note that this car still carries its original single master cylinder for the 4-wheel disc brakes and a heavy-duty clutch fan keeps it cool. Underneath it's clean and tidy and like the engine compartment it's clear that it was properly restored then they hit the road. The transmission is the original numbers-matching 4-speed manual which shifts beautifully and allows the high-revving L79 engine to stretch its legs. The suspension was rebuilt and rides like a vintage Corvette should and the brakes are smooth and progressive. And nothing in the world sounds like a hot small block Chevy barking through a healthy dual exhaust system so even though this car appears sophisticated on the outside you know it has some serious hardware underneath. Wheels are reproduction knock-offs rolling on modern 205/75/15 whitewall radials. It's very unusual to find a matching-numbers high-horsepower early Corvette that has been driven instead of stashed away in a garage and rubbed with a diaper. These cars were made to be driven and are absolutely superb on the open road-it's almost a crime NOT to drive them. Fortunately the hard work-the restoration AND the first bit of road rash-has already been done for you. All you have to do is call! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
