That being said, it has everything to do with the fact that that there is a MuscleCar Place, and after waiting for 25 years it's now in my care!

Feature Segment
Corey Eubanks flies high in the General Lee at Dukes Fest 2005.
If Corey Eubanks is doing his job correctly you’ve likely never heard of him, but if you’ve ever wanted to know who was behind the wheel of the General Lee in the early 1980′s you know his name well. His dad, legendary game show host Bob Eubanks, helped him land his dream job as a stunt person on the Dukes of Hazzard in 1981, and he’s been flying high in cars ever since. He was the youngest person ever to jump the General, and his Hollywood career has lasted 30 years. He’s jumped the Mercury in the movie Cobra, done work on the A-Team, Transformers, Starsky and Hutch, and most recently in the movie Fast Five in doing the major bus flip at the beginning of the movie! I asked Corey what his favorite muscle car has been that he’s performed on screen with, and he was quick to say that it was the General because it was his “first love.” He’s driven many, and to date he’s the only person still jumping the “GL” (as he calls it), though he’s not sure if another opportunity will ever arise.
Corey on the set of Fast Five

As a kid of the ’80′s it was always my dream to jump the General Lee, and Corey described in full detail how the stunt performers survived the whole thing. To begin, the car was weighted in the trunk to keep it from tumbling end over end in flight. Second, nitrous oxide systems were installed in the car to give the extra kick of speed required to proper the General up over the kicker ramps that would launch the car up high in the air quickly. Third, and probably most importantly, the driver of the car was suspended from the roll cage of the car first via bungee cords, and belted into the seat second. The weight of the driver was almost completely suspended as a result and the end result was that he or she would not compress any vertebrae upon landing. Cool, huh?
Corey and Bumblebee

Corey still does stunt work on a regular basis but has also started organizing a sport called Auto Barrel Racing. Think of it as horse barrel racing, except with cars. Really! If you’d like to hone your stills at driving and drifting, check it out. You can also visit Corey on his Facebook page.
Thanks for the interview, Corey! Keep up the great work. Thanks as well for teaching me as a kid that cars can fly!

I wrote in our last blog post and spoke in Podcast Episode 45 about our upcoming group trip to Bob Bondurant racing school, and this week the details are revealed with pricing. If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to wheel on an autocross track and road course like a real race car driver, now is your chance to do so….for (at least) $900 off! Once you go through this training you’ll have the skills to take your muscle car to any autocross track and road course in the country…..and rip things up!
The Courses:
As mentioned last week, these are the two courses that we’re interested in:

Grand Prix Road Racing 3 Day (3 Days in a new Corvette)
Grand Prix Road Racing 4 Day (3 Days in a new Corvette plus 1 Day in a Formula Mazda)

The 3 day course will involve 20% of the time in the classroom and (thankfully) 80% of the time on the track. We’ll learn heel-and-toe downshifting, skid control, and get the fundamentals down that will help us at the autocross and on the road course. The instructor ratio is 3:1 – so you’ll get plenty of one on one time.
The Discount:
Our group discount for the 3-Day course is: $900 off full price! (Full price for this course is $4250. Our price is $3350!)

Our group discount for the 4-Day course is: $1000 off full price! (Full price for this course is $4795. Our price is $3795!)
The Details:

We need a minimum of 6 sign-ups to make an official group, and the sign-up deadline is June 15, 2010.
We’ll schedule a time to go to school between June 16, 2010 and September 1, 2010.
We’ll plan to attend the 3-Day course unless ALL INTERESTED PARTIES choose the 4-Day course.
You’ll place a $500 deposit with us upon signing up. The remainder of your payment will be due in full once a date has been set to attend the school.
Should we not reach the 6-person minimum sign-up number by June 15, 2010 YOUR DEPOSIT WILL BE REFUNDED IN FULL.

To Signup:
If you’re ready to go racing, it’s a pretty simple process! Simply contact Robert Kibbe (robert@themusclecarplace.com) with the following details:

Your name
The course you’re prefer to attend (3-Day or 4-Day)
Your “blackout dates” between June 16 and September 1, 2010 (i.e. the dates that you CANNOT attend)

You will be contacted directly to process your $500 deposit. We accept Visa and Mastercard. The schedule dates will be set by June 24th based upon the blackout dates each party has given as well as Bondurant’s ability to fit our group in. Should we not be able to reach a time that works for all parties in our group and Bondurant your deposit will be REFUNDED IN FULL.
The “Legal” Nitty Gritty:
As stated above your $500 deposit will be refunded should we not reach our 6-person minimum sign-up by June 15, or a mutually beneficial scheduling time between all parties in our group and Bondurant cannot be achieved. The remainder of your payment will be due with us once a date has been scheduled to attend the school. Please do not sign up on a whim as deposits will only be refunded by the criteria state above, though we may make exception for unforeseen circumstances (which you’d need to contact us with). We consider signing up to attend the school with our group as a gentleman’s agreement that you will honor. You need not sign a contract with us. It’s the racer’s code!
