TMCP #421: Derek Thomas, Rail & Road Auctions, Sell Your 80’s, 90s, and 08’s Muscle at Auction!

Take our survey for Holley…so we can find great giveaways for you! http://bit.ly/TMCP_Podcast_Survey

This weeks interview is  with long time listener Derek Thomas, owner and operator of Rail & Road Auctions. Derek has been in the auction business for many years selling model trains and actual train related items, sometimes at world record sales levels. He also has a passion for the cars he grew up with in the 80’s and 90’s and believes the time is right for these vehicles to start gaining value.

To capture the soon to be booming 80’s market, Derek decided to leverage his experience and bring a better opportunity to auction these vehicles. With his experience in the business Derek is able to utilize the same platform as the big players and offer those services to a lower dollar market. Since he is a MuscleCar Place fan, he decided it would be great to announce the service to our listeners with a discount of 25% off listing fee for your first vehicle listed and a 50% discount on your second in that auction!

If you would like to learn more about Rail & Road Auctions, and maybe take advantage of The Muscle Car Place exclusive discount, you can find the website at RaRauctions.com.

Holley is the official EFI source for the TMCP Network – and we need your help! We need your help! We’re working with Holley on future things to do with the show….and we really need to know where you live and what you drive. Could you please fill out this super-duper easy four question survey for us? It would REALLY help move the ball forward for the future initiatives we have planned together. http://bit.ly/TMCP_Podcast_Survey

TMCP #420: TV’s Dave Rea of DB Customs, Mopar Restorations for Dodge Boys and Girls; NPD’s Ask Rick – Bullitt Auction Recap

This week is a special guest I met at SEMA but did not get to talk to until he agreed to be on the show. David Rey is well known from the show Graveyard Cars but in 2018 he realized he was not cut out for the world of reality TV. It was only after he quit the show that his wife said he should just start restoring Mopars in his own shop. When he rattles of the list of the cars that are in line for work, it would make most resto shops shudder. Even with all of the jobs, David is a one man show handing the bulk of the work himself!

TMCP #419: Ryan Brutt, The Auto Archaeologist, A Deep Dive Into Finding Forgotten Cars – Pro-Touring Update, Big Red Camaro and RJ Gottlieb special interview

This week is a returning fan favorite friend of the show, Ryan Brutt.  It is always great talking to Ryan and in this interview he does an even deeper dive into how he finds cars and yet still protect the owners from the endless calls that his pictures would definitely generate.

Ryan has long had a love of cars and a great joy in the hunt of hidden automotive treasures. His quest has led to meeting many people and helping a great majority of them to either start the restoration they have put off for year, or sell it to a worthy buyer who will treat it with respect and love.

This episode of the Pro-Touring update is a great interview with RJ Gottlieb discussing everything Big Red Camaro related. I previously interviewed RJ five years ago in Episode 253 and I knew we had to do it again. RJ covers rebuilding the car and even previous to that, the evolution from stock vehicle to full tube frame chassis and Nascar parts.

TMCP #418: Clay Millican – Becoming an NHRA Top Fuel Drag Racer by the Definition of “The Want To!”

This week is a very special show is with NHRA Top Fuel superstar Clay Millican! I caught up with him at SEMA 2019 and had a chance for a good long chat. His story of humble beginning to the top of Top Fuel is truly amazing, and you’ll learn a phrase I hope you’ll remember forever: “The Want To!” He is even a listener of The Muscle Car Place and Kibbe and Friends shows and his comments proved he has an insiders knowledge of the show!

TMCP #417: Oscar Pereda, Godfather of the BFG Pro-Touring Tire? Michelin’s Track Connect Tire Sensor Apps for Better Lap Times – Ask Rick, NPD looks to the New Year, The Bullitt Mustang goes to Mecum

This week I cornered Oscar Pereda from Michelin in a (slightly) “off the books” interview at the SEMA Show. While the initial discussion was to be centered around the all new Michelin Track Connect system….I found out that he is the guy behind the coolest and most trend-setting genre changing tire sizes in pro-touring! He literally is the person who decided to have BFG develop a 335-wide 18″ tire…because he thought that is what would look “coolest” on the tail of a ’69 Camaro. Front tire sizes followed suit and today we have an enduser suspension, brake, chassis, and speed industry built around it!

TMCP #416: The 2019 Christmas Show: The 11th Annual Feature Interview with Santa Claus Himself!

For a record eleventh year in a row I had the pleasure of having on the most sought after person this time of year. He makes it a point to come on this show every Christmas and marks this as his ONLY official media interview he does each year (everyone else is a fake!). Our interview was with the big man himself, the baddest sleigh driver ever, Santa Claus!

2019 was an amazing year at The Muscle Car Place with many incredible sponsors coming on the show and Santa was generous enough to acknowledge their generous sponsorship’s. He also had some interesting things to say about the new Star Wars and answered some facts about himself for our listeners.

If you would like to hear any of Santa’s interviews from previous years, you can find them here on the website! It all started in 2009 with Episode 28, then followed annually with Episode 67, Episode 114, Episode 160, Episode 197, Episode 233, Episode 270 ,  Episode 307, Episode 343 and last Christmas in Episode 379 We even had Santa on for our gigantic bonanza Episode 300 Celebration show!

We would like help good kids find where Santa is this year with the Google Maps based Santa Tracker and Holiday calendar! Check it out!

Thank you to everyone who made 2019 such a great year and thank you Santa for another great interview!

TMCP #415: Inside the Wyotech Diesel Program: Classroom, Hands On, and Salary Perspectives from a Student and Instructor! – Ask Rick: Shelby, Iacocca and, and Ford vs. Ferrari

This week Wyotech returns with the “insider” interview we’ve been hoping for: an instructor and a student together. Our guests are diesel instructor Mark Muhsman accompanies by his student Micah Hager. This interview is specifically intended to help people considering the automotive trades to understand what the commitment of school can be, what they can do to prepare themselves to be successful PRIOR to coming to school, and (practically) what they can expect to make as a starting salary after graduation. All of those were answered!

TMCP #414: SEMA Special 2019 Show #4 – RingBrothers, You Can’t Handle the Truth! -Mike Copeland: Building An Award Winning SEMA Car in 10 Weeks – Craftsman Tools, Coming BACK to the USA!

This week marks the FINAL episode from SEMA 2019 show, this time with the fabulous Ring Brothers, Mike Copeland of Diversified Creations, and Travis Tesluk from Craftsman Tools! This particular show is all about getting the the truth. Maybe a little too much truth, but it was a fun and you can hear it in the interviews! What a year this was. Thank you so much for tuning in!

TCMP #413: Dan Kahn; The Inside Baseball of the SEMA Show – Jon Chase; Catching up on HOONIGAN!

This week is a special Thanksgiving Special SEMA show with Dan Kahn and Jon Chase. This is a fun to listen to show with a couple great guys live from the show floor!

Interview #1 : It was a huge pleasure to sit down again with my friend Dan Kahn and do a “State of the Nation” style discussion on the topic of SEMA – both the trade show itself as well as the organization. Dan and I met each other years past and hosted a popular podcast called “Cars for a Living” for several years together. Today Dan’s company “Kahn Media” is the PR powerhouse of choice for automotive aftermarket companies businesses. He is heavily involved with SEMA and sits on the board of directors – and just a few hours after this interview he was suprprised to win the 2019 SEMA Person of the Year award! In this interview he explains his involvement with SEMA now and many  insights into one of the most interesting parts of this industry. The Battle of the Builders discussion itself is worth the price of admissions! Check out Kahn Media at their website Kahnmedia.com

Interview #2 : Jon Chase of Hoonigan fame is another person I met years past at SEMA, thanks to the podcast . He himself has been a guest on our show – twice! The first interview was episode #159 where he talked about his dream job designing automotive toys for Maisto, as a designer for Muscle Machines. Later Jon was back on the show in episode 368 where he talked about his new dream job of Brand Manager and Art Director at Hoonigan. He has also designed clothing, promotional media, and raced his ’55 Chevy against Mike Finnegan’s (a re-match is in the works). HOONIGAN is a huge success in our industry today and this was a full discussion on that as well. You can find out more at Hoonigan.com.

This weeks installment is the second LIVE from the show floor episodes from SEMA 2019. This year was not only epic as an overall show, but also epic in the number of interviews with the best-of-the-best in the industry that we were able to conduct! This second show features Kyle Tucker from Detroit Speed, Scott Bowers at the Ron Francis Wiring booth with Larry Callahan the Godfather of Pro-Touring, Jeff Teel from Holley Performance Products, and Kevin Huth and Jordan Henke from JH restorations with their “Tokyo Trans Am – my favorite car of the show!
