LISTENER E-MAIL:

This week I address the following question from a listener. Pilot’s, listen up!

“Should I spend my money learning to fly – or on building my Mustangs? I like flying….but I’m starting to wonder if the best feeling in the world is driving a V8 with a 4 speed, long tube headers, and Flowmasters!”

FEATURE INTERVIEW

George Kook Jr and his "muscle car" Caddy CTS!

This week’s podcast show guest is George Kook Jr., or “Kook Jr.” as be prefers to be called. His father George Kook Sr. started Kook’s Custom Headers originally, and George Jr. came on the seen after his high school days were behind him. While they were originally from New York, today their new state of the art facility is located in North Carolina.

A custom set up Kook's Headers specific to a 5.0 Coyote motor into a Fox Body Mustang.

They have become the specialist in custom headers and exhaust systems for every muscle car (and engine) on the planet it seems, and they’ve become a staple of high tech engineering for those that want nothing but the best hooked to their cylinder heads. Using a 6-axis measuring machine they can digitally map the engine bay of any vehicle and then digitally create a set of headers for it.

This makes things a lot more pleasant for people that love to do put engine into muscle cars that were never supposed to go there, such as an LS motor into a Nova, a Coyote motor into a Fox body Mustang, or (gasp) a Chevy engine into a Ford chassis! Their shop is constantly full of customer rides that require a full custom exhaust setup, and George Jr. mentioned that it takes about 50 hours of labor to create one.

They offer a full off the shelf header line for most applications for muscle cars, both old and new, and they are also the only licensed header manufacturer for NASCAR. If that’s not impressive enough, they’ve become a supplier to the major OEM’s as well and they’ve even started to do some military work! Not too shabby for a little family run business, right?

Thanks for the interview, Jr.!  Maybe my ’64 Chevelle needs to head your way!
